Follow up to September 11, 2026 Crash

Richard Menninga (age 67) of Waverly has died from  injuries sustained in a crash that occurred on September 11, 2026 at approximately 8:40 pm near the intersection of Highway 63 and Cedar Wapsi Road in rural Black Hawk County.  

Richard had been driving his Harley Davidson Trike northbound on Highway 63 when a Chevy Impala being driven by Brady Barta (age 22) of Fort Atkinson turned north onto Highway 63 from West Cedar Wapsi Road.  The Impala was struck by the Harley Davidson. Barta was not injured. Menninga was transported by ambulance to Unity Point Allen Hospital in Waterloo before being airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City where he succumbed to his injuries on September 29, 2026.

The crash remains under investigation.
