Damontre Tairice Burt (34), William Rashad Burt (32), London Willis Walker (32), Treshundus Kentrelle Redd (23), Zavyon Brian Nix (28), and Asa Louis Crawford (20) have all been charged with Rioting (Class D Felony), 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief (Class D Felony), and Interference with Official Acts (Serious Misdemeanor) stemming from an incident that took place in the Black Hawk County Jail on July 7, 2026.

At approximately 5:00 pm on July 7, the inmates refused orders to return to their cells. They threatened staff with violence, covered security cameras, damaged fire sprinklers, and used bedding to obstruct staff’s view and to shield themselves. They flooded the pod which leaked into other areas of the building, causing extensive damage. Officers entered the pod and subdued the inmates. Neither any inmates nor staff members were injured.

“This is the first time we’ve had anything of this magnitude in my 32 years at the Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Nathan Neff. “The staff handled it very well and brought the situation under control without anyone being injured. It’s a stark reminder of how quickly things can become volatile in a jail setting. That’s what makes this profession so stressful; security staff must always be on alert because even the most mundane shift can turn violent in a heartbeat.”
