On August 3, 2023, deputies and emergency first responders were dispatched to a single vehicle accident in the 7000 block of North Canfield Road, north of Dunkerton. A 2006 GMC Canyon truck left the roadway, entered the ditch, and collided with a utility pole in the east ditch off of the roadway.
Upon arrival to the scene first responders and police located the sole occupant of the vehicle, a male driver, who had sustained serious injury from the collision. The male was later declared deceased at the scene upon assessment by ambulance personnel. No name is being released at this time to ensure family notifications.
Utility crews from MidAmerican Energy have made necessary repairs and the roadway was re-opened following the accident. The accident remains under investigation at this time by the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office.
