Injuries in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 218
On 3/25/2023 around 1,425 hrs. on Hwy 218 and Orange Rd intersection, a beige Pontiac van was stopped in Northbound 218 traffic, attempting to make a left turn onto Orange Rd. Behind them was a blue Chrysler van, stopped and waiting. A black RAM truck also traveling northbound failed to stop, rear-ending the blue van, causing it to lurch forward and strike the beige van in front.
Two passengers from the blue van needed to be taken by ambulance to Mercy One Waterloo in serious condition. Two other adult occupants from the blue van suffered minor injuries and were evaluated at Mercy One Waterloo and later released. Minor injuries were reported from the other vehicles involved.
The investigation is ongoing. LaPorte City Police, Evansdale Fire, Mercy One Ambulance, and Waterloo Police and Fire assisted.
