The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office will be holding a hiring pool for the position of Civilian Detention Officer. The testing will take place at the Waterloo Center for the Arts Thursday, July 27th at 6pm, and Saturday, July 29th at 8am.

The Black Hawk County Law Enforcement Association is hosting a tactical pistol competition for certified law enforcement officers on Saturday June 17th, 2017 at the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office Training Center. The purpose of this competition is to raise money for the BHCLEA. Each year during the holiday season, the BHCLEA sponsors 10 area families that are less fortunate, and spend roughly $4,000 to buy Christmas presents for their children. Every spring, the BHCLEA also sponsors area high school post prom activities. Registration is limited to the first 150 competitors. For additional information, please contact the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, or email Deputy Meyer at ameyer@bhcso.org to register. Prizes will be awarded for top competitors, including a Glock 43 Donated by Cedar Valley Outfitters in Marion, IA.

Registration can be competed by filling out and turning in the brochure form with payment.

Since Sheriff Thompson was elected in 2008 and in every month since, he has hosted a community meeting somewhere in the county.  The locations move each month to a different community, in order to provide a transparent look at the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, allow the community to voice concerns, and spotlight programs and services offered by the Sheriff's Office. Everyone is welcome to attend!
