The United States Attorney's Office has recently released information pertaining to ongoing scams during the current virus.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office will resume normal operations on June 8th, with procedures approved by the BHC Board of Supervisors. For more information, see the attached press release.


With the ongoing coronavirus / COVID 19 events, the Sheriff's Office has implemented the following changes until further notice:


Sex offender registrations will be handled via telephone. Individuals subject to registration should call 319-291-2587 to register over the phone, the paperwork will then be mailed out. All existing registration and time requirements remain in place.

Sheriff's Office administrative services remain open at this time, however we have limited front office visitors to one at a time inside the building. The front doors will remain locked, and visitors will be allowed in accordingly.

Jail inmate visitation has been canceled as of March 18th, 2020. Limited professional visitation remains in place.

Fingerprinting has been suspended at this time.


It is possible that these changes could be modified, depending on the progression of the virus. We appreciate everyone's cooperation during this time, and urge individuals to call in at 319-291-2587 if you have any questions.

Upcoming Sheriff's Town Hall Meetings

Since Sheriff Thompson was elected in 2008 and in every month since, he has hosted a community meeting somewhere in the county.  The locations move each month to a different community, in order to provide a transparent look at the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, allow the community to voice concerns, and spotlight programs and services offered by the Sheriff's Office. Everyone is welcome to attend!
