Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office Divisions

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is a progressive and forward-looking agency that employs approximately 140 employees. These public servants work in four divisions: Administrative, Field Services (Patrol and Investigations), Special Services (Civil, Training, and Information Technology), or the Jail Divisions.

The Black Hawk County Jail is one of the largest jailing correctional facilities in the state, managing 272 residential beds and an average daily inmate population of approximately 250.

Our full-service Patrol and Investigations divisions boast state-of-the-art advances in crime detection and deterrence applications. From in-car computers to infrared and thermal imaging technology, the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office employs the latest innovations to better serve the citizens of our county.

Our Special Services division focuses on court processes and supporting the court system, infrastructure, computer technology, and training.

Special Services

The Special Services Division consists of the Civil and Training/Information Technology sections. Special Services is responsible for civil process service, criminal record maintenance, crime analysis, and data processing; plus organization and facilitation of training, and information technology development and maintenance.

Administrative Services

The Administrative Services Division is responsible for the general administration of the agency, the budget, research and development, and purchase and supply.

Jail Services

The Jail Services Division is responsible for the custody, control, and transportation of inmates; court security, and warrants and extraditions.

Field Services

The Field Services Division is made up of the Patrol section, and Investigations section, and S.W.A.T. Field Services has the responsibility for crime detection, deterrence, and prevention; criminal investigations and apprehensions, crime scene analysis, and accident investigation and reconstruction.
