Applications for the position of Civilian Detention Officer are always accepted through the Black Hawk County HR Portal. Openings and testing dates will be announced through the Black Hawk County HR Portal.


All applicants will be initially evaluated based on the information included in the application only. Therefore,it is important to complete your online application accurately andthoroughly as it relates to the position requirements. Resumes,transcripts, certifications and other supporting documentation may berequired for further consideration. Applicants considered best qualifiedwill be asked to continue in the selection process.

2) proof of education and/or required certification(s). 

An eligible and qualified veteran may be entitled to preference in employment under Iowa Code §35C.1. The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the position of Civilian Detention Officer.  A hiring list of the top candidates will be developed from those who pass the required examinations, pre-employment testing, and oral interview.  The hiring list will be used to fill the current openings and any vacancies that may occur during the next year.

The Sheriff's Office will provide testing pools for the position of Civilian Detention Officer periodically, anticipating one (1) to two (2)times per year, or sooner if needed.  Therefore applications will beaccepted at any time and applicants will be notified by email through the application system (BHC Human Resource's Application Portal) of when the next testing dates are scheduled.
