The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office Senior Safe cell phone program has given over 6,000 cellular phones to senior citizens living in Black Hawk County. By accepting the cell phones and signing the transfer agreement, seniors are provided with worry free travel and immediate connection to the nearest 9-1-1 dispatch center.
The phone is also helpful, not only for use with personal emergencies, but in order to assist the Sheriff's Office in responding to the needs of others as well. Recipients of the phone are encouraged to use the phone to dial 9-1-1 to report accidents or to summon help if witnessing a crime in progress or someone else in need. This program is not only dynamic because of the service it provides, but also because it demonstrates the community focus of all of Black Hawk County. All of the phones provided are donated to the Sheriff's Office by citizens with the express purpose of benefiting seniors with the use of a 9-1-1 capable portable phone. The Black Hawk Sheriff's Office is very proud to partner with the people of the community to provide this service.
